The family business Steingraeber & Söhne started building pianos around 1820. In 1852, the beautiful Steingraeber 'house' was inaugurated in Bayreuth, which was completely restored in the 1990s. The manufacture is very exclusive and is one of the top manufactures in the world, even though the factory is a completely handmade workshop where only a small number of instruments can be built per year, a maximum of 150 pieces. The product is not suitable for larger production. The wound copper strings are worked with different alloys to get “closer” to the steel strings, so that no transition can be observed anymore. The instrument will sound exactly what “you” give it with your hand as a bow as a touch in your piano playing. It is an instrument that is almost addictive.
